Linton Music Festival Announces Exciting New Band – Big Blind
The Linton Festival has announced that in addition to headline acts such as The Animals and the Blockheads it has signed one of the fastest growing rhythm and blues bands, Big Blind, for this year’s festival that takes place on the weekend of June 20, 21st and 22nd.
The Linton Festival Committee has announced that Dutch band Big Blind have been added to the line up for the 2008 festival. Big Blind have taken the European Music scene by storm over the past 12 months, going from nowhere to festival head liners (including the prestigious Belgium Rhythm & Blues festival – the largest event of its kind in Europe) during this short period.
Linton Music Festival Committee Representative Jackie Dale said,
“We were so impressed with Big Blind that we had taken the decision to book them for the Linton Festival before they had even finished their second song.”
The presence and growing status of ‘Big Blind’ has already been acknowledged in the UK by Ian Siegal, arguably the biggest name on the current blues scene, who has been working with Wesley van Werkhoven (the lead singer / harp player) on his recent European dates.
Influenced by the likes of ‘The Hoax’, ‘Stevie Ray & Jimmie Vaughan’, ‘Lester Butler’ & ‘Howlin Wolf’; but playing stunningly original material, Big Blind have received rave reviews. They landed a recording contract within their first 8 months and have produced their internationally acclaimed debut CD “Dressed to Win” in record breaking time.
The Linton music team were tipped off early this year about the band from a Dutch contact and travelled to the Kwanendamme festival in the Netherlands recently with a view to a booking in 2009.
One blistering live set later, and with an ecstatic festival crowd howling for more, the decision to approach the band for 2008 had been made.
“We were worried that we would not be able to afford to book them by the time of the 2009 festival .” continued Jackie Dale.
Working the logistics of getting Big Blind to Linton 2008, based on a single free date in a packed tour schedule was a challenge, but with special transport arrangements in place,
the band will make their first and only 2008 UK appearance at Linton on Saturday 21st June.
Big Blind compliment the previously confirmed Saturday line up featuring ‘King Pleasure & the Biscuit Boys’, ‘RJ Mischo and the Red Hot Blues Band’ ‘The Stumble’, ‘Nublues’ & ‘Joanne Shaw-Taylor’.
